Grand Re-opening at 447 Race Street (December 2012)

Don’t miss the grand re-opening of the Main Street Gallery on second Saturday, December 8, from 5-8 pm at its new location at 447 Race Street in Cambridge.

This dynamic cooperative gallery features paintings, drawings, collages, weavings, fiber arts, handmade furniture, jewelry, and works in clay, all created by member local artists.

The re-opening reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served






Nancy South-Reybold -- Baring Our Souls (September to October 2012)

The Main Street Gallery is proud to present “Baring Our Souls” a show featuring the figurative work of member artist Nancy South-Reybold. The exhibit will also include the works of other members of the co-op gallery as well as works of artists who have shown at Main Street in the past.

Featured artist, Nancy South-Reybold, began her study of the human figure in the late 50’s at Catholic University in drawing classes with Kenneth Noland,who later gained international renown as a color minimalist. For the past 20 years she has drawn the human figure every Monday afternoon of the school year. This show will highlight just three of her favorite models over these years. Ms. South-Reybold says she has found that specific models are more intriguing to her and that she responds best to them, creating her most significant work.

There will be a reception on second Saturday, September 8, from 5-8 pm. The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. This show will run through November 2.

David Mercier, LAc: Art, Beauty and Creativity in the Search for Vitality (October 13, 2012)

Also joining us for Second Saturday October is David Mercier. Mercier is the author of A Beautiful Medicine, a fresh and often startling look at the core of health, healing and spirituality. It goes beyond the basics of nutrition and exercise into the psychological and spiritual aspects of our lives. The book will be available for sale during the book signing following the talk. 10% of proceeds are donated to the gallery. Mercier will be speaking from 7:00 to 7:30pm.

Kevin Fleming -- Wild Delmarva (July to August 2012)

Kevin Fleming has covered the world as a photographer for National Geographic and has been. His assignments have taken him into war and famine in Somalia, to the Mediterranean for a re-creation of the voyage of Ulysses and put him on a dogsled crossing the Canadian arctic.

A Delaware native, Kevin spent a decade as a National Geographic photographer and most recently has concentrated on creating books. His photography has won many national and international awards, and he has photographed in over 26 countries.

Kevin has published three photo books, The Heart of America was produced after he spent years crisscrossing the country. Then in 2008, he publishedWild Delaware, concentrating on the wildlife and wild places in his home state. In 2010, he produced Wild Delmarva, which instantly became the number one best seller on the peninsula.

It is an honor for the Main Street Gallery to host this distinguished photographer. This exhibit opens on July 6 and there will be an artist reception on Second Saturday July 14 from 5-9 pm at the gallery, 413 Muir Street.

Members and Guests (May to June 2012)

There will be lots of new and exciting talent to see at the Main Street Gallery in May and June! Members of the artist-run gallery in Cambridge have each invited guest artists to show their work with them at their next show entitled: “Members and Guests." Painters, potters, photographers, jewelry artists and sculptors are among the many artists whose works will fill the gallery and remain on display through June.

Meet the member artists and their guests at an opening reception on Saturday, May 12 and June 9 from 5-9 pm at the gallery at 413 Muir Street. The opening coincides with Cambridge’s Second Saturday festivities. The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

It's Paint! (March to April 2012)

Anita Peghini-Räber is the owner and the featured artist of Anita Peghini-Räber Gallery in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. She is a naturalistic expressionist painter who has been working in the U.S. for many years, but grew up in Switzerland and France. Anita creates mystery and mood conceived in color and found in the full expression of aggressive paint application. Her paintings exhibit energetic, strong, bold, directional, and high-speed brush and drawing marks. Join us for this vibrant exhibit which opens on March 3 and closes on April 28. An artist reception will be held on Second Saturday March 10, and Anita will present about her work and methods on Second Saturday April 14.

First 2012 Art Raffle (March 10)

May the luck of the Irish be with you! Join us for our first raffle of 2012. This successful event, first held in December 2011, is back again for a St. Patrick's Day celebration of art. Raffle tickets are $20 each. At 7:30pm we will pick the lucky numbers. Holders of those tickets get to chose from the original work of art on display for this event in order of selection. December's raffle was a sell-out, so arrive early to purchase your ticket. You may find yourself with a pot o' gold!

The Eye of the Beholder (January to February 2012)

Join us January 6 to February 25 as we celebrate the unveiling of Phyllis Gillie Jaffe's The Eye of the Beholder and other wall hangings. Her creative use of materials and symbols in the decorative treatment of fabric will strike a chord in all of us. A Second Saturday reception will be held on January 14 from 7-9 pm and also on February 11, at the same time. During the February reception Phyllis will talk to us about how she created this project. Light snacks and refreshments will be served at both receptions.
